Emily studied Music and Drama at the University of Manchester, gaining her BA (hons), and taking part in many concerts, operas and shows along the way. She then went on to teacher training, studying Secondary Music, Drama and Performing Arts and gaining QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). Since 2015, she has been teaching music, singing and performing arts in primary and secondary schools, at a performing arts school, and privately. She has been director and musical director for many student shows both inside of school and out, as well as treading the boards herself in various productions.
Emily’s favourite time teaching is with her sister, Freya! She is having the best time with their venture ‘Cosmos Performing Arts’. She hopes to bring the joy she feels when she is performing to the students of Cosmos Performing Arts!
Freya Coates

Dance and Drama Leader
Freya has always had a passion for dance, movement and musical theatre. She studied at Laine Theatre Arts, training in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz/Musical Theatre, Street/Commercial and Tap.
Upon graduating Freya attended Guildford School of Acting to convert her diploma into a BA (Hons) in Theatre. She then went on to teacher training, studying Secondary Dance, Drama and Performing Arts and gaining QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). Since 2018 Freya has been teaching in primary and secondary schools, at a performing arts school and privately. In 2025 she graduated with distinction from Goldsmiths, University of London, with an MA in dance movement psychotherapy. Freya is thrilled to be teaching alongside her sister once again, with their joint venture, Cosmos Performing Arts!
Jessie Johns
Musical Theatre Assistant
Jessie trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, completing a degree (BA hons) in Musical Theatre. In her career so far she has been fortunate enough to be a part of two professional productions, ‘Diana The Musical’ and ‘Carousel’, as well as college productions of ‘Madagascar, the Musical’, ‘Urinetown’, ‘The Wedding Singer’ and ‘High School Musical’.
Jessie will be taking a short break from Cosmos as she sails the high seas as a cruise ship performer! She is so excited for this new challenge, and will bring everything she learns along the way back to her teaching at Cosmos when she returns.
Throughout her childhood, Jessie has been involved in theatre groups which have helped get her to where she is today. She is so excited to have the opportunity to inspire the next generation of performers . Working alongside Emily and Freya at Cosmos is a dream come true!
Jess Murphy
Musical Theatre Assistant
Jess recently graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire with a First-Class Honours degree in Musical Theatre. Alongside her studies, she discovered a passion for teaching through leading Baby Ballet classes, and is excited to continue her journey at Cosmos!
During her time at Trinity Laban, Jess performed in Greenwich Theatre’s pantomime ‘Snow White’, and took part in a one-off performance at the Savoy Theatre showcasing plays written by children from Westminster. She aims to create a fun, safe and engaging environment where every student can thrive.
